New Comic Wednesday: All hail Deadpoolio!

Probably the most popular character in the Marvel series right now, deadpool, though very young compared to other characters, has established himself in the comic book universe. But, like batman, marvel understands that they can exploit his popularity and release multiple books about him at a time.
Of his books, I am loving this mini series. Though it's killing me with the weekly releases, I'm already getting Batman Eternal and Futures End. The comic industry just wants to kill me slowly.
Anyway, Deadpool is running into trouble, yet again. He is trying to be killed by his employer. Just in case you don't know the lady on the bottom left of the cover is Shiklah and that's deadpool's wife. But in this comic, we are rewinding back to before their marriage to the moments of their first encounter and adventures together. So, we already know how this ends, right? Deadpool is already starting to fall for the demonic princess. Yet, there seems to be so many people after her. There's Dracula who wants to be king of Vampires and Demons and then there is A.I.M. (The scene with them and M.O.D.O.K. Is hilarious....)
In Dracula's fury, after finding out Shiklah's brothers are alive, he now sees his plans ruined. Now he wants to destroy deadpool at all cost and his fiancĂ©. So he is gonna send various creatures including a diabetic werewolf centaur symbiote. Yeah, crazy! Anyway, fellow comic nerds, I won't spoil anymore. Enjoy Deadpools: how to get a demonic princess to fall in love with you.

Also out this week is Red Lanterns Annual #1, so go to your comic store today (or at least this week).

Movie Monday: The Reveal Everyone is Talking About!

So... Comic con is over. Now what? We soak in all the news they release!
Gal Gadot's look for the new Batman/Superman film is out! Yet, people still have mixed reviews about Gal Gadot. While she is a hot actress, she is super skinny. The long time fans of Wonder Woman don't care if she worked for another countries army at some point in time, she is super skinny. What muscle does she have to defeat Superman, the Man of Steel?
Wonder Woman has no weakness like Kryptonite, but, if you've seen Justice League Doom, it seems as though her only weakness is that she will fight to the death...literally. Wonder Woman is an Amazon! Gal Gadot says people have a problem with her being WW because of her lack of big boobs, but it's actually her lack of muscle tone. Girls have enough problems being as skinny as the next big actress, why couldn't we set a better example. Only if Marvel didn't already take all the good leading ladies for their character's roles. Her face and body will bring the guys in but will it satisfy the girl fans who love the Wonder Woman they have always loved?
Another person says that her costume looks like Xena: the Warrior Princess. At this rate, it's probably better if we just put Xena scenes in the movie. We need someone like Xena played by the beautiful Lucy Lawless, but it's hard to find someone in Hollywood that has some arm tone and is gorgeous at the same time. Plus, once again, WW is an Amazon. Her costume would probably be like that in real life rather than a leotard-type costume. Also, will her lasso make others truthful? Find out in the next movie from DC comics!

Strom #1: New Comics EVERYWHERE...

It seems modern comics are just being over played with everything recently. Once, every little big event was a big deal in the comic universe. I have mentioned deaths in comic books in previous post, but there is also the amount of number one issues out there!

So, holding her own title is Storm from the X-Men. Storm has been around for a while, and even appears in the X-Men movies. So, she is not a stranger to the public eye. Is everyone just going to have their own book for the sake of number ones? The only person I really care about having their own comic is Psylocke. I know she is already in X-Men and X-Force, but I just love her so much. If she was a real person... I don't know. Ha. For now, I will just have to settle for VampyBitMe being the best Psylocke Cosplayer and all.
I know, I am getting a little side tracked.

Anyway, Storm issue one isn't worth the buy unless you haven't read Amazing X-Men Annual #1. They are almost the same issue... Yes, I checked if I wasn't reading the wrong issue. I mean, it isn't exactly the same. There wasn't a lot of "a.k.a.'s" in Amazing X-Men. I can tell you how both books go. Storm talks about he powers, something happens with someone close to her, and the end. The same concept is there, different people. Usually, in number one issues (if they aren't one shots) they end with an introduction of a problem that the main character has to address. In this issue Storm goes back home and she deals with this Sun Corp her way.  She, immaturely, messes this girl named creep/flourish. Then takes her back home where she always wanted to be. Then the end.... I pretty much spoiled the whole book for you. Though, nothing happened. No sneak preview of a villain. I thought something about the sun corp would come up trying to take revenge from Storm's fury.

Anyway, Storm #1 is... Meh. I wouldn't continue reading it. This issue would be a good One-Shot.

Seriously, the amount of number ones I see at once is just becoming insane. In DC Comics, they release a number one issue after they cancel another series. They have a set number of comics that they work on at once. Then, there's Marvel who has so many titles out it is almost too hard to keep track with what comics to order and to buy. It's also confusing to some fans. For example, when they re-re-booted certain series in "Marvel Now" like "Wolverine" and "Wolverine and the X-Men." Some other comics that didn't restart still had "Number One" in the corner. The comic was probably 16 or (my favorite) 16.1!
Also, if you're gonna make another comic. Have something major happen in it! I thought that was all what superhero comics were supposed to be about. Partial personal issues and partial world issues. Yet, nothing happened in Storm. I was a little disappointed. At least the art is good... I think Marvel just has so many books out that they can't put as much thought in their books. I think they should cut the fat before it gets to crazy.

With the amount of number one issues I imagine that modern number one issues will almost be worthless.

I love indie comic books because they don't really have to please anybody but themselves. They also seem to work the hardest. It almost always turns out good because it isn't some stupid gimmick that the bigger industries tend to do.

Anyway, I read Carmen #0 and #1 made from a team in Australia, and it is interesting. It's different than almost anything I have ever read. Yet, there are SO many unexplained answers in this book. Who exactly is Carmen? Why do they want her? What's with this brain? But that's how number 1 issues should be! Because curiosity just kill someone and they need to know! Just like me!
Anyway, check them out!

Happy Anniversary Batman...or is it birthday?

Today the comic book world is celebrating the most favorited and recognizable figure in the comic book universe. Today is also the first day of SDCC, which is the main reason they wanted to celebrate Batman day. Batman first appeared in Detective Comics 27 in March 30th, 1939! Yes, before the "Detective Comics" series became completely dedicated to being another  batman title, he was just the mysterious Bat-Man! Along with his apperance is also the apperance of Commisioner Gordon, Bruce Wayne's friend.
Today, in participating comic book stores and libraries, you can get a reprint of the first apperance of Batman! Now, don't get too excited. Because even if the comic says "64 pages of action!" It's almost about 4 pages of actual batman solving a crime faster than ever... Probably (unless he had to solve the case of "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar." It was Dick...). Also in the comic is a readaption of the first apperance of batman written for the purpose of what if he appeared in Modern times. I love both adaptions. The first is pure innocent comic book fun and the next is the batman we all know today. Along with the answers of why he is batman, why he must do this. The last story in the comic is called "27" and it's basically batmans between universes, why they must keep rebooting the universes. It's super cool! If you read my review about Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse, it makes my explanation about the constant reboots of comics make sense.
The last two pages is a preview of the first apperance of Batman, but slightly altered.
Along with a comic you can even get your chance to get a mask and cape! There are four different mask to choose from, and I, as a fan of the 66 batman, is getting that mask! It's gonna be so cool!

As Batman said in his 30th issue, but with a few changes, ready for another 75 years?!
Happy Batman day everyone!

Nightwing Obsession

I'm a late collector in Comic Books, but I have always loved Dick Grayson. It all started with watching TV land one day because the channels were between Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. If one show was over, I'd switch to the other channel. Well, one day I switched from CN to Disney and I noticed Batman! Holy channels batman!
I watched the old Adam West Batman shows from the 60's and fell in love with the boy wonder played by Burt Ward. I know Burt Ward isn't the strapping young man he was on the show, but I'd love to meet him one day! He's probably the main reason I started loving everything I love today.
Speaking of which, I was gonna have something called "Movie Monday" today but I have no movies to talk about right now, but there was a DVD announcement!! It's the Adam West Batman TV series! I am so excited! It comes out in November! Holy Robbers batman, you know how to take my money.
When time comes I will talk about Guardians of the Galaxy which is the next Marvel movie coming out. Also, Sin City is coming out soon and they have my favorite Actor in the movie! Joseph Gordon Freaking Levitt. That's how you know it will be good because he chooses his scripts. I haven't watched a movie of his and hated it (ignore the fact that I was pissed about that bullshit "Robin").

New Comic Wednesdays: kill for the money, revive for the feels

LOTS of new books out this week. Not really in quantity, I've seen bigger weeks, but there are just too many big books in one week. Good thing I get paid weekly from the shop. From DC, there are a few number ones coming out. I always feel like I have an obligation to try number one issues out.
There is Robin Rises and Teen Titans out as the first issues.
As most people know, another Robin dies. First, by vote, it is Jason Todd then, a boy with a similar personality, Damien Wayne. It's been about a year since the death of Damien, but we all knew he was coming back. Most people come back to life in the comic world. It's Dragonball but the Dragonball and the Enemy is the comic book company that played god and decides who lives and dies! Yes, I'm really dramatic.

Robin Rises in a One Shot, starting off with the back story of how Damien came to be, just in case you didn't know (and I have had people come into the shop that didn't know there were more than two robins). Basically, the birds and the ... batman, and some science and ass-kicking. Then it makes you feel so bad all over again by mentioning the events of requiem and the actions of Batman throughout the rest of the Batman and Robin series. Then, if you read Batman and Rash Al Ghul, you'll be right where this comic begins.
I don't want to spoil much, but this book makes you really sense how much Batman cares for his son. There were many Robins under his wing that he treated like a son, but you can tell it became so much more different with Damien. That is essentially what the roll of Robin was made for to be the light in Batman's darkness. Though, it seemed like the roles were supposed to be reversed when Damien came into the picture, Damien was still able to play his role as a Robin.

On the other hand, I really don't like the mind set that comic book companies have now a days. The Death of Archie was mentioned in my towns paper today, and we have random people that don't read or collect comics suddenly coming in asking for the comic. First of all, it's Tuesday. I'm going to assume you are a secret shopper. Second, comics prove that death sells. I mean, we already know that the first appearance of characters (that also appear in movies) and the death of (popular) characters are the hardest to find and more expensive books. For example, when Damien Wayne died in Batman Incorporated everyone wanted that book! That book went on for a couple printings. At least they aren't killing by voting anymore, from what I know at least.
I feel like I have to get used to everyone dying in the comic world, then being brought back to life. A major death probably happens more often than it really should.

Anyway, also out this week is two parts to the Original Sin story line and issue two of Deadpool: Dracula's gauntlet. I forgot to mention it last week, but half Dracula's gauntlet #1 came out as a free issue not too long ago. So if you were fortunate enough to have the free issue, you already know a fourth of what has already come out. But with all these Deadpool books coming out besides the main Deadpool story line, Deadpool is Marvel's Batman. To put it simply, Deadpool is Marvel's character that they will squeeze out as much as they can so they can get money. How many deadpool variants are there? Too many.

Flashback Friday: Infinite Crisis...again? 52 style.

I've decided to add flash back Friday to my (somewhat) weekly lineup. Most of the "Flashbacks" I will have will have to do with something happening currently.
If the comixology app was how it was before I probably would have found out sooner that the Infinite Crisis coming out next week is currently online at the DC comics site. It is running exactly how they ran injustice, the other comic that became a game, where they have three parts that become one hard copy issue. Each part comes out weekly while you have to wait for the hard copy to come out every month. Also, you are still behind a few issues compared to the online issues. Now, Injustice was phenomenal in a way that I could not wait for the next issue to come out. I did follow that weekly compared to just getting it in a hard copy. However, I still bought some hard copies. Like the issue of the death of my beloved.

I did download the first part of issue one last night. And I guess no matter what you can't get rid of the number 52. New 52, 52 worlds, 52 issues in the last Infinite Crisis story, 52 stories out at a time in the DC universe, 52 pick up! The number 52 is everywhere. It's like those conspiracy movies where everything has the number 8 in it or something like that! Except this is all intentional. I still love how corny that is though.

They mention the previous Infinite Crisis, saying that they had to end it with a terrible price. In one way, I get why they would mention that, but at the same time I don't. From what I have said from previously in another post, the new 52 doesn't make any sense because they kept some facts before the new 52 happened and some facts just don't exist and are created new because it is supposed to be a "reboot." I don't think there was a real need to mention the previous Infinite Crisis. Unless most of DC just doesn't care at this point because Infinite Crisis marks the end of the new 52 and possibly Futures End. However, I haven't looked that part up yet. Whether it is true or not, be prepared for ANOTHER reboot. But you can forgive them because Marvel already had a re-reboot with some of their issues like Wolverine and X-force. No one wants to make it to that 100th issue point anymore.

Also, the story starts off with the character Harbringer. She is going to the different Earths to find heroes, at least that's what it seems like. Every earth just seems to be in chaos and everyone is fighting. So, while she tries to escape from people trying to kill her, she just teleports somewhere else. And who is the first recruit we see? Some shadowy figure with claws!

I don't think it matters who she gets from each universe. All anyone wants is just an army of Batman. Let's be real here.

When I tell my customers about this new Infinite Crisis coming out. I love how some people are like, "Really, again?" Though, people didn't have that reaction when Marvel had Original Sin came out. Only because this Original Sin is a bigger event than the previous Original Sin. The first was just a story of Wolverine, Xavier, and Daken. Then we have this Original Sin affecting the entire Marvel Universe. People shouldn't really judge DC. Even if the story will probably be around the same lines as the other Crisis'.

Lastly, I believe most of the popular comic books have to start all over again at some point. In our lives both Batman and Superman are 75 years old and some other comic book characters older. If we just continued from the point of their creation and on to now, they would be Batman Beyond status. Unless both never age, and batman's sidekicks are the only people actually aging.

That's it for the somewhat Flashback!

The decimals of The Marvel universe.

I usually don't read or collect the decimal point issues that marvel has. It just ends up being never-ending sometimes (not really, they only had five other points to add to 700). Though, we had extra copies of Original Sin (the one with no S at the end) #5.1 today, so I thought that I would read it.
Anyway, I at first didn't want to read the point one issue because it's always just aside story that they just couldn't fit into the story for some reason. However, to justify it, it's going to have a decimal number! It's almost like DC's Zero issues in the middle of the run. I thought, "why not?" This one has Thor and LOKI in it. I love me some Norse mythology.
In this issue Thor gets a vision from the Watcher's eye about a sister, who was known to be dead. She's thought to be dead, but Thor is gonna look for her anyway with the help of his mischievous brother!
I think I see what's coming though in the next issue. They find who they believe (or who probably is) Thor's sister, and she lived in this realm that is probably the equivalent to our universes' Pluto, and she hates the living guts of Thor. They fight. And... That's all I got.
The only thing is what does the Old Loki have to do with all this? He has something to do with everything, I'm sure.

To people that know me, yes I am trying to read some of the Marvel issues we have left over in the shop so I don't seem too DC crazy.

Angel and X-23 becoming a thing? It's not really a spoiler according to the next cover of All Nex X-Men.

But who isn't X-23 kissing on a cover?

Don't get me wrong, I love both characters separately. But how will they be together? You see the bad ass Angel on his motor bike. No one knows why... You have wings dude! Then, you get to the end. I'm not really spoiling anything THAT important throughout the issue. Though,  Marvel should just rename Cyclopes as "Bike Bitch,"
"Where's my bike?!"
First X-Men movie reference. High five!

Also, if you are not reading the Injustice comic (the comic that the fighting game is based off of) you should get it! The storyline is ten times better than the game! It goes more in-depth than the game ever could go into. Also, the reason for Superman for going over the deep end is so much more reasonable and it makes you have deep feelings for the characters. The feels are string with this one!
The latest issue of Injustice, Harley Quinn has a touching moment with Black Canary. Both their men were killed by the same super powered man. Plus you learn something crazy about this univereses Harley! It really is worth reading if you are a Harley Quinn fan.
Also, I really wasn't to know how Batman is alone in the game in the end. It would have been cool to have other batfamily characters in the game other than Batgirl.

SPREADing the word! Also, is New Suicide Squad Necessary?

All corny titles aside, this new sold out Image title is Definetely (note capital D) interesting. I honestly was reading it in between customers at work, but read the rest at the dentist while getting strange stares from the elderly people staring at this girl decked in nerdy stuff from head to toe. Then, on top of that reading a gruesome comic book.

I was serious about it being a book not for the faint of heart (if you read my first post). If you love the post-apocalyptic setting, this book is for you! It's not exactly a zombie apocalypse, but it is some scary, red, fanged creature that takes over the human body. At least the humans that aren't "immune" to being controlled by whatever this Spread is.
Anyway, from the cover, you see this giant man, No (yes that's his "name"), with a baby strapped to his chest. No, it isn't... No's. We have no idea who or what the baby is, but the baby has a special ability! Will the baby be enough to keep the human race going and stop the spread?
I don't know, but I WANT TO KNOW. As Justin said to me earlier, because I gave him sh*t for releasing his book the same week as Grayson, all my money will be (or already is) yours! (Insert laugh turning to an uncomfortable laugh here, I work to fuel my comic addiction).
Also, if you follow Spread on Facebook and Twitter along with the creators Justin Jordan and Kyle Strahm, you can enter to win their sweepstakes. The prize... A drawing of YOU in their book. You'll probably be killed. Sorry, but not THAT sorry.

Moving on....
The New (and maybe improved...?) Suicide Squad is out as well! Too many number one issues for comfort! One of my customers that collects every DC title (rounds up to 100 bucks alone because he gets some doubles AND variants) is excited about this new team. I quote, "Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, Dead Shot, AND Joker's Daughter? It's gonna be good. And ooo, is that Black Manta too?"
Basically this is the few popular villains of the DC universe in one book, being controlled by money, love, and bombs.
If you read the preview in the back of DC issues that came out the past week, you would know that this comic has a dysfunctional group. We have two trained killers and two joker-obsessed girls. Why do we need them? The only explanation is competition.
However, the two ladies might end up killing each other or loving each other. I mean, what female isn't like this with another female?
Though, still cheering on the original joker lover because that girl can swing! It's a home run and Boom! Also, I donut think wearing someone else's face is sanitary... Especially after you found it in the river. I wonder if she sanitized her face before putting that face on!
She didn't. I'm sure she has some disease by now.

The New 52 and their New Huntress?!

I have already said my review on Grayson #1, and I left out this small disturbing fact on this one character (whom you already know from the title). She appears in the last issue of Nightwing and is in the first issue of Grayson #1.

She has already been revealed as Grayson's partner, but maybe also a possible love interest too? At least, from what we know with the pre-52 Huntress and Nightwing have had their fling. So will history repeat itself... Or non-history since the DC reboot? I mean the Huntress we know is Helena Wayne in the new 52 Earth 2. Everything is confusing in the comic universe! But it's just confusing because you have to accept the New 52 as it's own storyline, but not it's own... If that makes ANY sense (I know it doesn't).

In the comic it even reveals the girls name as Helena Bertinelli. And her outfit consist of the Huntress trademark of a cross on her chest. This isn't the Helena we know! It's like blowing my mind in a bad way, like an explosion you failed to escape from because the bomb was strapped to your heart (see what I did there?). However, in the latest Batgirl issue (also out this week) the Helena we know as Huntress is with Batgirl and Black Canary with their own little fight. Will their paths meet and just create this gigantic cosmic rift that creates the new Infinite Crisis of DC?!
No. Probably not, but there will be an Infinite Crisis alone with a video game! Get your game pants ready!
But as revealed by the writer Tim Seely, it isn't the Helena or Huntress we knew before the new 52 (again accepting the new 52 as a whole seperate comic entity like the Hollywood adaptions of comic movies) that this Helena is not Huntress she just has the same name. Basically, throw all your knowledge about the Huntress out the window. It's hard, I know.
Anyway, this issue on this character is it's own little post because I believe DC just wants to confuse the heck out of people. Or just piss CJ (me) off... Either one. Anyway this tan Helena probably has more that what we can just assume from the first issue.
I will probably keep reading Grayson after I give it my five issue test not because I want to know how this organization knows certain heroes identity, but also who is this girl?!

Nightwing is back and ready to ...hypnotize you!?

20140708-203554-74154550.jpg
This week the new DC title comes out: Grayson! And who else but the biggest Richard Grayson fanatic wants to have her first post on the newly unmasked and secretly alive hero.
The Grayson hair fiasco is now over as stated in DC Women Kicking Ass and Bleeding cool. Yes they changed the cover for whatever reason, but now that the issue is out we know what Grayson still has beautiful dark locks in a combover (but I'm not gonna lie, I was gonna be mad if his hair was blonde- thank god, it's a wig).

20140708-203639-74199220.jpg

I was skeptical about this comic at first only because I still love Kyle Higgins and want him as the writer, but I guess we can give Seely a shot. So far, he hasn't done bad with this first issue. Cause I'm definitely interested. Don't want to spoil it too much, but DC is finally doing something great with Grayson and giving him a major role (well Batman gave it to him in Forever Evil #7). If you read the last issue of Nightwing and Forever Evil you'll already know that this organization that Grayson is a part of is dangerous and knows identities of heroes such as the Bat Family. But what is Richard's role in it exactly? The last words I have though are, I wish I could use Hypnos to make Dick Grayson my best friend. Wink wink.

Also in stores this week is Spiderman 2099. Why Marvel is pushing more Spiderman books especially when the first round of 2099 series didn't really do so well, I don't know. I guess Marvel's Batman is Spiderman and Deadpool. Anyway, if you're lost on who this Spiderman 2099 is Lyla, his holographic assistant, is there to help you on the first page because a man from the year 2099 is in the year 2014... What?! I think it would be more of a shock if it was still the 90's. All I can say is: I still love how some comics have their cheesy side... Really Apartment 2099? Did he kill the occupant just for that apartment? Maybe... Sorry Afro for your child, really. Also... Bitches are scary when they want to be. Lastly, I wanted to mention that one of the funniest guys I know, Justin Jordan released his new comic through Image called Spread. Not for the faint hearted. Really. If you do not know Justin Jordan you will probably recognize the titles he has worked on like DC comic's Superboy (another favorite of mine) and Green Lantern New Guardians. I do not know how he keeps up with this work load. I'm barely writing my own book!
